The Freelancer

‘The Freelancer’ is Matthew Caines: a graduate with two years’ experience in the publishing industry working for national publications such as the Guardian online, Sartorial Male, AREA Magazine, Food & Drink Magazine, Redbrick Newspaper and REACH Magazine.

Matthew Caines

His CV would say he’s a motivated, confident and passionate individual who is creative, organised and ambitious.

He would simply say that he works too much for too little.

Matthew – like many of the other Wannabe Hacks – nurtured his love for journalism at the University of Birmingham with the Uni paper Redbrick where he was Features Editor.

Since leaving Uni he was keen to keep his (writing) hand in and immediately combined his love for publishing with his infatuation for food (a sous-chef for 6 years! Ramsay eat your heart out, on a bed of fennel and foiegras). He was a review copywriter at Food & Drink Magazine before moving for paid work with various freelance sourcing companies.

Following a brief spell in Bristol with AREA Magazine as assistant editor he made the stunning move to the big smoke and was quickly snapped up by Sartorial Male as a member of the style editorial team and staff writer.

The Freelancer loves lifestyle, fashion, food, style and features. He has a personal website and supports Birmingham City Football Club.
