The Detective

‘The Detective’ is Ned Murray, a 23-year-old postgraduate Investigative Journalism student at City University London.

His work experience includes time at The People, ITV News and The Oxford Mail. He is also a former reporter and News editor of Redbrick, The University of Birmingham’s student newspaper.

Having studied Politics as an undergraduate degree, Ned’s interests lie in the media’s central role to play in democracy. He is also keen to learn where the future of investigative journalism lies in a climate of cutbacks, as it continues to unearth the era-defining stories.

Ned is a late-comer to journalism, having only decided to take this route around the end of his undergraduate finals in May 2010. Before that he considered careers in teaching and management consultancy or just throwing it all in and moving to Australia.

He enjoys playing the guitar, running, real ale and playing cricket. His claim to fame is playing in the same cricket team as Australian internationals Ben Hilfenhaus and Tim Paine.
